No time to care for plants, even a cactus? You can still fill your room/home with “plant life,” but without the hassle of having to actually water and feed the living thing. These adorable wire cactus plants are a great way to add interest to your space or make for a friend.

How to Create a Wire Cactus Garden

1 Draw/trace a cactus shape onto your paper. You can free-hand it or use a template. Make sure your shape is in proportion to the size pot you plan to use.

2 Trace the drawing with your garden wire. Measure several inches up and then begin to trace the drawing with the wire. You want to have enough slack on your wire so you can use the base to “plant it” in the pot. If you are tracing a thick-stemmed cactus begin at the end of the wire. Tape wire in place as you wind it around the shape. Knot the end of the wire to complete the shape design.

3 Remove tape very carefully. You don’t want to disturb the design in any way so gingerly lift the tape away to reveal your design.

4 Knot the other end of the wire to secure design and then add a few dabs of glue. The glue should hold the design in place.

5 Add other design aspects to the cactus if needed. If you want to create a branch or flower, use the same paper tracing method, along with the wire and tape. Glue additional pieces into place.
